Our GOAL is to contribute towards the basic understanding required to realize the synthesis of tailor made functional materials.

At MATERIALS CHEMISTRY a team of 20 scientists works towards understanding the chemistry of material - plasma interactions.

Our RESEARCH STRATEGY is to employ in situ structure and chemistry probes during plasma condensation to gain understanding of the correlation between the synthesis conditions and the structure and chemistry evolution. Ex situ techniques are employed for complementary structure and chemistry analysis as well as for the characterization of the film properties. Computational tools based on thermochemical as well as ab initio methods provide a description of phase stabilities and material properties.


Through combination of theory and experiment we seek to understand the chemistry of material-plasma interactions and to contribute towards the scientific basis that will allow for tailoring materials.
